Wall Art

The renovation is still only at the very beginning but that doesn't mean I can't start working on some of the decor for inside! In the past few weeks, I have made these two pieces of wall art (that I love!)

I got this first idea of a blog (but I can't remember which!) It's really easy - just type up the letters/words on your computer in the font you would like (I chose American Typewriter) and print them on everyday paper. Then using a pen press along the outline of the letter through to the wood to make an indentation. Then paint inside the mark with a fine tipped paintbrush in your preferred colour! Really easy and looks just how I wanted it to! I'm not sure whether I am going to hang it with the string showing or without the string showing? Ideas?

Here is a closer pic so that you can see the indentation -

Second piece of work I love too! It's really pretty and also it was up-cycling something old (the butterfly). An overseas visitor nearly 6 years made this butterfly for us and it used to hang from the ceiling and using lots of strings and wires used to flap it's wings! It was amazing! Of course it broke and we've just had the wings hanging around for ages and yesterday I was about to throw them away when I had this great idea. Firstly, I used a very watery pink paint to stain the canvas and then I hot-glue-gunned the wings on into the position I wanted them. A really easy, beautiful piece of art with so many memories too!

Have you made any homemade art lately? Or even bought a beautiful piece of artwork?
