<br />
Last night, after eating dinner and not feeling so great, I made a decision. I decided to go Paleo for at least a month.<br /><br />In case you're not aware, basically the Paleo diet consists of eating only what our Paleolithic ancestors would have eaten, being lots of fresh meat and vegetables with some fruit and nuts. That also means no grains, sugar or dairy (although that can be disputed!)<br />
<br />
It's seems hard - I'll admit that, but I am committed to the idea since the benefits are enormous: weight loss, clearer skin and more energy (if you stick only to Paleo-approved foods and regular exercise). And it has been said that the first month is the hardest so that is why I am willing to stick it out for one whole month.<br />
<br />
I will try to update here every day for the next month just to keep myself accountable!<br />
<br />
Day 1 - 31 August 2014<br />
<br />
<b>I ate //</b><br />
Breakfast - one egg, one bacon rasher, a couple of cherry tomatoes and a few slices of avocado<br />
Lunch - chicken and vege stir fry with freshly squeezed orange juice<br />
Dinner - two chops, one serve of mixed veges<br />
Snacks - Capsicum sticks, sultanas<br />
<br />
<b>I ate (but probably shouldn't have) //</b><br />
Two marshmallows (oops!)<br />
A half a milo (thought a bit of dairy would be okay... totally forgot about the actual milo!)<br />
One finger taste of chocolate pudding mixture<br />
<br />
<b>I'm craving //</b><br />
Chocolate pudding Bonnie made for desert! And red velvet cake that I was going to make yesterday!<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>I'm feeling //</b><br />
Pretty normal... the day went okay (food was fine) but no miracle changes (it's only day 1!) I'm feeling a little unsupported when everyone else is eating different food, but know that I am making the right decision. I'll just have to convince the rest of the family to join me!<br />
<br />
<b>Do you eat Paleo?</b><br />

<br />
I made a cake. I've made a lot of cakes, but I am pretty proud of this one! Isn't it so pretty? Made for my mum's birthday tomorrow, the end product is not only pretty great (it didn't taste bad either), but I had so much fun making it... it was such a fun challenge! Inside, the cake has three layers - vanilla cake, followed my frosting and marshmallows, then chocolate cake, topped with frosting and chocolate and then finally another vanilla cake.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I haven't updated Sophie At Home in so long... and I sort of miss it, but I've had so much going on, in particular a very exciting (very time consuming) other blogging project... more details to come! Also, we bought an old house in the little country town of ours which we will be renovating, I can't wait to share updates :) My Cert III in Design Fundamentals course is also going really great and I'm enjoying it so much. My life at the moment is pretty great (cake helps).<br />

<br />
This past Wednesday I got some new glasses.<br />
<br />
Not only do they have the added bonus of being so clear and beautiful to see through, I simple love the frames! I had my last frames for two whole years and whilst they suited me when I first chose them back at the start of 2012, I will admit I was a bit sick of them... This time I chose big black frames! I haven't had black frames since my first pair of glasses in 2007, but even they were thin. I think for a long while I've been trying to make my glasses as unnoticeable as possible. This time however, I'm totally owning them and LOVE them!<br />
<br />
Also, when I went to get my glasses, I got some contact lenses to try. It took quite a while for the optometrist to get them in when I was at the shop and I have not yet been successful at home. My eyes must just be so sensitive! Really, who would want to wear contacts but when you can wear beautiful glasses like these?!<br />
<br />
Hope you've been having a great week x<br />

<br />
This is what the dining room looks like now (please excuse the bad photo!) The walls have been painted white and we had the flooring laid in May last year. So pretty much it's a nice big blank canvas ready for us to work some magic with! And I'm super excited :)<br />
<br />
The view above is looking from the kitchen (can you see the random tap sticking out of the wall?) To the left is a big sliding door that right now leads to nothing (the house is on stilts so it's just a big drop), but we hope to eventually add a deck (the views are soooo good) and to the right is the living room and entry. Past the table is the hallway leading to the rest of the rooms.<br />
<br />
From the inspiration I have gathered from my <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/sophietelfer" target="_blank">Pinterest boards</a>, you can see that I was it to be nice and bright and airy. There will definitely be the inclusion of pops of colour (I'm thinking pink, purple, orange, yellow and blue) and we want a nice big statement for the back wall. I was thinking a giant world map since we have lots of backpackers stay over in Wattle Cottage (how cool would little tags be to show where everyone is from?) but the possibilities are endless. I'm definitely thinking big and bold though!<br />
<br />
I'd like a big rug as well as perhaps some armchairs and a little side table (since we don't need a really big dining table). The above examples show heaps of gorgeous pendant lights, but since the ceilings are so low we might need to think of something else.<br />
<br />
I'm so excited about the possibilities for the dining room! I hope to share inspiration for the rest of the rooms (like the living room, second bedroom, bathroom and laundry) soon and then update posts for all rooms (since I did share the original inspiration posts for some rooms nearly two years ago)!!<br />
<br />
Have a great week xAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17405573449240701215noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6420702903779840912.post-36812570130483415622014-01-20T14:54:00.002+08:002014-01-20T14:58:58.812+08:00Quick Craft // Colour Block Wooden Mobile<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These days, mostly when I'm feeling creative and looking for inspiration, I head to Pinterest. There's millions of ideas on Pinterest and you can't really log off Pinterest without feeling inspired. But then sometimes I feel like the ideas were never actually mine in the first place. Sure, it's fine to adjust and modify projects others have already done, but you feel so much better when the idea was yours originally.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, a few weeks ago, when I was feeling creative, I headed outside for inspiration. I got a spark of an idea and it grew from there until I had a colour block wooden mobile. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVZLY-B218GEDRH_8NSqNX-Mcof8dIORuuhazIu0BgbTpL0jp2BKflFSJAgKw-zPAZnup4liFfm0YKxcGawkoVwv0Zwi-MgI_mT8UTQJVsv-aO1FUZbtzCL-XSF47LRbIt___6LiAFfCA/s640/wooden+mobile-2.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 // Collect your materials - five wooden sticks of varying lengths, one longer stick for the base, a roll of twine, five different coloured craft paints (I chose white, blue, pink, green and yellow), a paintbrush, a hot glue gun and scissors.</div>
<br />
Please note that this is a QUICK craft, so I didn't sand, prime or seal the sticks, but you can do so if you wish! I did go for smooth sticks though and scraped off all the bark before beginning.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
5 // Attach all the sticks to the longer base stick. You can choose whichever pattern you like but I went for a triangle sort of shape with the biggest stick in the centre, and smaller ones on the edge. I simply tied the twine around the stick with a double knot and a dob of hot glue for security and so that the sticks wouldn't move.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
7 // Display and admire! And isn't it gorgeous! I'm in love... I just love how the natural textures of the wood and twine are combined with blocks of bright colour, the perfect combination :)<br />
<br />
This is a super easy craft that I can definitely recommend, have fun!

<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtGQQXWMFkBQXCF5jgpS3x-ot5Kc-xX623ZzwYCvVocAw2JXg6DKmjQy-2BHsMBFeescNmTzPNIAAFqAIfINzVArhoD18aXgcwAsNoAb8KWzy7jqw-XrqeMkiLmoITNt-BudKa8M7Mljc/s640/glitter+jars.jpg" width="426" /></div>
<br />
I absolutely adore setting the Christmas table (or any table settings) and these gold glitter jars made their way onto our table for Christmas lunch this year. The gorgeous gold glitter also means they would work for New Year's too... or really just for anytime, anywhere for a glitter lover (like me!) I will warn you that you will probably create a big mess when making these jars... but at least it's a glitter mess!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA7B1PDKxD5Kw5K9DYzDaC-pb4poHvp7Gs0QaDj37hEu8tFNRjqk3mWs76w1ik9BBFQL6WDNOCHjCWVKL-ovDABZKnScPIrRXj6l7dkWaGYhmHY4P6ZVMw28ze1075KaI5u7ounb40xs8/s640/wooden+mobile-13.jpg" width="426" /></div>
<b><br /></b>
<b>Jar 1 // Glitter Stripes</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
You will need // double sided tape, glitter, scissors, jar, sealant (optional)<br />
What to do // Wrap the jar in double sided tape stripe s(measure if you like, but eyeballing it is easy enough!) By sticking two (or more) widths of tape next to each other, you can add extra visual interest by having different size stripes. Peel off the double sided tape cover and sprinkle (or dip) the glitter over the sticky stripes. Optionally, seal the jar so that the glitter stays for a long time :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-nlfjLJYeY8T8VBF2IzQ7-iV1M3sVreMeb5Ic90bvh9EOXuRLd3EDBPdikdGEmA-PhxwTyVIhusyCZrfnzKd2aRJSY5KbJ-0Uj2zLhTUZnptwfwY_7xB-YQN6lkilhmoRRyUBv5S9Dbk/s640/wooden+mobile-12.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<b>Jar 2 // Glitter Dipped</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
You will need // white paint, paintbrush, glitter, jar, sealant (optional)<br />
What to do // Use the paintbrush to coat the bottom section of the jar with white paint. You can measure but I just eyeballed the straight line and applied a thick coat of paint. If you want a nice even, thick coverage, apply a second coat. Whilst the paint is still dry, sprinkle glitter all over the painted section! Wait for the paint to dry and then seal if preferred!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<br /></div>
I love the way the jars look with a white tablecloth and rustic wood length, but there's so many things you could use the jars for. Wouldn't they be a pretty way to store some paintbrushes or pencils?<br />
<br />

2014 is going to be great. I just know it! Here's what I hope to do this year...<br />
<br />
<b>Grow my blog // </b>Last year I didn't have the resources and things to really grow my blog, which I'm sad about because I think in some ways it took a backwards step. I really want to change that this year. I know it's easy to say when I'm on holidays but I hope it will be easier because I'll be living in Busselton (instead of boarding). I have lots of ideas for studio spaces and the like to make my dreams become a reality!<br />
<br />
<b>Embrace opportunities // </b>I'm doing lots of new things this year, so I'm sure there will be plenty of new opportunities! I really want to be the best I can be and not be afraid to say yes.<br />
<br />
<b>Exercise more</b> // I hate exercise. But I really want to change that! I might never love exercise (okay, I know I will never love exercise), but I can still try! I have this idea in my head that lying next to the beach this year will mean I can go for lots of nice long walks and runs. First things first, I plan on getting an iPhone armband and an app to record my moving!<br />
<br />
<b>Sew more // </b>Again, this was something I couldn't do last year but hope to do more of in 2014. I really want to sew myself a piece of clothing or two and more than anything, a quilt. I simply love quilts and would love to have a go!<br />
<br />
<b>Improve my photography // </b>Already, I know my photography has been improving but truthfully I hardly know how to use my camera! I want to learn more functions of my camera to be able to get better images, which of course... translates to better images on the blog! I love nothing more than blogs with nice big bright photos :)<br />
<br />
<b>Eat healthy // </b>Originally this was going to be "eat nothing from a packet". That was a bit unrealistic though (and I've already broken it!) but I really want my diet to be great this year. I know that already my diet isn't that bad, but it could definitely improve! I'm talking lots of fruit and veggies and homemade foods. I will have to pack lunches again (first time since I was 11!!) so will be looking at some healthy, easy options.<br />
<br />
<b>Be nicer // </b>I really want to be a nicer person. Not saying that I'm mean, but I know that I can get really angry with the people closest to me for no real reason. So this year I really want to be nicer. I always want to have a smile on my face and be someone people love to be around! I want to make other people smile and feel special so hope to send more random snail mail letters and awesome birthday (or just because) gifts and notes.<br />
<br />
<b>Explore more of WA // </b>I love this gorgeous state of mine and hope to see more places I've never been. A weekend or two per year we like to do places we've never been before (Yealering in 2012, Dalwallinu in 2013) and this year I'd love to go to Esperance and up further than Dalwallinu to Meekatharra and the like.<br />
<br />
<b>Make the most of things // </b>We only live once so I just want to make the most of every day and every opportunity!<br />
<br />
<b>Do more design work // </b>I love designing things and have designed many posters and invites for community and personal events (all just because I love it!) This year, I will be starting Cert III in Design Fundamentals so I really want to consider doing some design work for other people. (Contact me if you're interested!!)<br />
<br />
I know it's a lot to commit to, but since it's now on the web, I really hope I can make all these resolutions come true.<br />
<br />

We had Christmas at the farm this year and we had lots of family come down. Odette and E hardly ever see each other, but they are just so much alike! They are born only five days apart, are the same height and have the same hair! I really wanted to take some photos of them together since they hardly ever get together. Then on separate occasions I took some individual photos of the gorgeous girls. It was so much fun and I'm so happy with the end results! The memories are the most precious though. I hope these girls stay friends forever.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbF-rYk7o9lquZ1A_ytoCIKV9NLq4rFrx-Yq-1-FvDQKnmisDSQmJT317v1arLpVcjUZBld6lsS9zJV3Z1sVxd55_hJBpXaptsB2HF0a_nzMVZ2g7PSlKmxRfcCqac8sNmDBHdKSkL89A/s1600/highlights+of+2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbF-rYk7o9lquZ1A_ytoCIKV9NLq4rFrx-Yq-1-FvDQKnmisDSQmJT317v1arLpVcjUZBld6lsS9zJV3Z1sVxd55_hJBpXaptsB2HF0a_nzMVZ2g7PSlKmxRfcCqac8sNmDBHdKSkL89A/s640/highlights+of+2013.jpg" width="383" /></a></div>
<br />
2013 was a good year for so many reasons, but here's a few highlights of the past year... (not in any sort of order, just a smorgasbord of the year it was!)<br />
<br />
1 // We welcomed Blossom, our gorgeous ragdoll cat into our family after a spontaneous decision at the markets whilst on holiday at Bremer Bay. I am so happy we bought her though because she is simply the best addition to our family! Blossom an adorable cross eyed cat who loves to sit on top of the tadpole/frog tank and dip her tail in the water, sleep in the sink and wait at the bidet for someone to turn on the tap so that she can have a drink!<br />
<br />
2 // We went back to Bremer Bay for Easter. Every year we head down there during January, but it was our first time for Easter and it was the best! Not all of the family got down, but we had a great few days 4WDing and fishing and swimming and going to markets and the like.<br />
<br />
3 // I made the decision to go Manea Senior College next year (and got accepted!) This was a really hard decision for me to make and I spent a long time weighing out the good and bad things. Once I made the decision about mid-July though, I was so happy! I am really looking forward to it, especially since I will also be completing a Cert III in Design Fundamentals whilst I'm there.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuE0RVO0cW1G6FRhXY7Dk1_HScFCULVELhFF8dcAZ_iwKOEHy-CylKdVOYpu5dBJYvJ3sTyclIt0hdpQ2f54x_m2WNaDd_whLaj23UiLTDZpqU54xapJ_WygahnKvfetqV9JyR2sSkppU/s640/inspired+by+travel.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
4 // My trip to Taipei! It was my first time travelling alone (let alone overseas!) but it was a great adventure and enjoyed my two weeks in Taipei very much. Some of the highlights included going to the top of Taipei 101 and eating chicken hearts and large intestine soup!<br />
<br />
5 // I spent most of the year planning the WPIPS Camp 2013 and in October, along with a group of friends we finally head off to Busselton for four fun days. We did so much together and made some fantastic memories. Those days were definitely a few of my favourite from 2013!<br />
<br />
6 // From July to the end of November, I volunteered afternoons per week at the After School Care at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School. I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with the sweetest children.<br />
<br />
7 // In January, I was fortunate enough to receive the Shire of West Arthur Young Citizen of the Year Award. It was such a surprise but a lovely way to remember all the great things I did in 2012! I go into the Shire these days and find it funny (but cool) to see my name up on the big board of award recipients.<br />
<br />
8 // I got a job! At the start of this month, I was employed at the Shire of West Arthur as a Project Officer. I am focusing on compiling information of the Darkan-Dardadine Railway for signs that will be sued along the rail trail being established along there. Other tasks include answering the phone, shredding, photocopying and filing. <br />
<br />
9 // I had a boarding unit filled with amazing, supportive girls which helped make 2013 great! Living away from home is hard, so to have a bunch of great girls there was really nice. I made some good friends, had lots of good times and will miss it next year!<br />
<br />
10 // In May, the flooring was finally laid in Wattle Cottage. It is a light wood-like linoleum, which I love! We had been waiting forever, so it was great to be finally done so that now we can decorate etc. It is probably the only big thing that happened over at Wattle Cottage this year so it is very significant!<br />
<br />
11 // We had Christmas at the farm! It is the first time we have hosted any Christmas at home since 2004, and especially great since both Mum and Dad's side of the family were there together. Not every could come, but we had a nice crowd and enjoyed each others company, spending most of the time in the patio since the weather was just great!<br />
<br />
12 // At the start of December, I did a week of work experience at Childside School in Boyanup. I had the best four days and never wanted to leave! The school is a community school that draws on Steiner and Reggio Emilia approaches and the like. It was so different to anything I had ever experienced or school I have ever been to. Everyone was so nice and I felt like part of a big family!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXCGKv2bPjl9qvzkMBg2edFc-Vdk6UBYk_KggWtBnIgpzzQEIdYGl86Va8Q0XJXa0ca_vR6l_rEZuQLKSn-Tp0WIr7FoMdIVemDL3EEVHT1vJ0h2FjDdZLAm7Td636tgTG2DoD0v3_YPw/s1600/taylor.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXCGKv2bPjl9qvzkMBg2edFc-Vdk6UBYk_KggWtBnIgpzzQEIdYGl86Va8Q0XJXa0ca_vR6l_rEZuQLKSn-Tp0WIr7FoMdIVemDL3EEVHT1vJ0h2FjDdZLAm7Td636tgTG2DoD0v3_YPw/s640/taylor.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
13 // The 11/12/13 marked Taylor Swift's Perth concert, which I was lucky enough to have tickets to along with both my sisters! It was an absolutely the best night, and reviews in the newspaper say that people who went to the concert will be disappointed with other concerts since Taylor's was so great! It was the first concert I have been to and I have to say I was very impressed.<br />
<br />
14 // In November, through my Media studies at BCGS, along with a group of other enthusiastic movie makers, I was able to work as the director on a ABC Open production featuring Deb "Spoons" Perry from Bridgetown. The small group of 6 (plus 2) did everything from the planning down to the editing which is being completed as we speak. <br />
<br />
2013 was great. But I have a feeling that 2014 will be even better... bring on the new year!<br />
<br />
Wishing you all the best for 2014 x<br />
<br />
P.S. Great way to end the year, with my 100th post on this little blog! Thanks so much to everyone for your continued support and comments, I love you all :) <br />

<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvT27BfwYiofdBaXr_T3-PlAprNlIg0EJEy9rEVCRQUMoFMq23xW-33IoIor5_bDpzATnbL_kxps0_F4DSLDCvWlGF660CJtVse2wCwNAr_R3eqVoluwLgfJ2uPx0jSZhNJlg9EYpGibM/s1600/glitter+glamour.jpg" /></div>
<br />
This year, for the first time ever, I participated in the Fat Mum Slim gift exchange. It has been so much fun stalking and shopping for my secret giftee. Wrapping has also been just as enjoyable since I love nothing more than a cutely wrapped present. I sent little gifts for the recipient's daughters and love how well this glamourous glittered packaging came together! It took a bit more effort but was soooo worth it. I'm in love. <br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>You will need // </b>gold glitter, key (or another cute symbol) scrapbook paper, floral wrapping paper, cardboard cutout letter, brown bakers twine, sticky tape, scissors, hole punch, liquid glue, black fineliner, white cardstock, paintbrush, pencil and circle template (or circle hole punch).<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>What to do //</b> Start by wrapping the floral wrapping paper. Cut (or punch) out a circle shaped gift tag. Cover the chipboard letters in glue before coating the front with glitter. Attach to the gift card. At the top of the gift card, punch a hole for the ribbon to be threaded through and at the bottom script a cute message or name. Use bakers twine to wrap around the present and attach the gift tag once dry along with a cute graphic cut out (like the key shown above). Send with love...<br />

<br />
We nearly always have a foreign backpacker or two sharing our home with us. We provide food, accommodation and a friendly family and experiences whilst they help out with farm and house work. It's a win win situation! Last weekend, one of our Taiwanese helpers Margie and friend Angela hosted a special Chinese meal since it was Margie's last weekend with us.<br />

<br />
Preparation for the lunch began early in the day and there was delicious smells wafting through the house all morning, accompanied by the sound of Christmas music since it was December 1st and I got a bit excited for the festive season!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
There was LOTS OF FOOD. We had sweet and sour pork (my favourite!), green vegetables, fried rice, a spicy chicken dish and the most interesting.. battered prawns topped with sprinkles and pineapple. The presentation was absolutely amazing and it all tasted really good as well (despite the weird combinations).<br />

Even though it is most definitely summer now, it wasn't too hot today. I was of course secretly happy so that I could make the most of those last few winter outfits I've been dying to wear! I've had this statement necklace for a while now but haven't actually ever worn it before. I love the way it so easily dresses up an otherwise casual outfit!<br />

<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibtHzqQigjS3RzhiHeClOgp7_ngmiPuw4CuW9wTNxWS_v_fE11jWiUyBhZRydN0iuO81wfiu0q34JeWCqJEsqb-RMCu5KSkufE0nVo-7T1JvFoctLcijwKkYFpEwRFGwpTyl7tlg1CjVM/s640/hand+drawn+christmas+cards.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
I'll admit I feel a bit bad posting Christmas stuff before December 1st. In our family, we traditionally don't start celebrating and decorating until the start of December. This year however, school ends on the 29th November (only a few days left... where has the year gone?) so I wanted to get some cards to give to the amazing people I've met this year.<br />
<br />
I knew exactly wanted in my mind and after having searched Etsy and the internet, my budget and personal preferences led me to the best option... crafting them!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiokVm6TrpAVdxO3w3FbjnwDkFBp3ISeHUzx-WKtI_MxjqzdkYuDJQsKy64pXR4GyyZn_VlGHGGZbisptTXITzuH48BXqv8CChAVgMLzDa4kaFl9BdJm7j5cAAaLKqjv3X0Y_i_DnvmZIk/s640/materials+xmas+card.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
You will need // a black fine liner, 250gm white paper, a brown and green texta, glitter paint, paintbrush, cutter and cutting board and scissors.<br />
<br />
What to do //<br />
<br />
1. Fold an A4 sheet in half lengthwise and then into thirds down the page. Measuring it will keep your cards nice and even!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-VrFl0t2aEfYXbeiTrAkvwILkOQOMfAJ1NYfx9Jj4h0WGSbCWXQlxAxMhV7v9gNz-fRSVAohPwqhqUoWK-rEyxRRU0LdZ5gulTDEujRQv8WLLLbYMgNMWAVDdQwACk5wNaRdAW-xouMA/s640/sketch+your+design+xmas+card.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
2. On the half of the paper that will become the fronts of the cards, sketch some christmas trees with a black fine liner. Optionally, like I did, script a "Merry Christmas" or any other message at the bottom of each card. Don't worry about perfection, that's not the look we're going for!<br />
<br />
3. If you want to make multiple copies, photocopy the sheet now onto more 250gm sheets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijYIH4KuUAN9_0ke4VfKUOql38WeQwwpIjGCg9xi7yPPE0PMJ9ZTh7_8RBmuP31sEPgWYMvHZnsf57tiSpiPHd4Evs9XhJE8DRgzW-dnwxes7zmmNhQY99tREEK60VMnvU6MPdokX3Ktw/s640/colour+in+xmas+card.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
4. Colour in the christmas trees on the photocopies. To make it quicker, I did all the green followed by all the brown. It's easier to colour the whole sheets in before cutting!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhICTN4ZyGOx2fhRkKJe6sJAY1q1FgoVQdL5E6c2DaTKlxLWeZBr_FsHIclv78DbcikZxCrxwlVtAsvKScl3Z43XgPE9N9jUqnCnj9ST4bv61-ryz9MBQzXO39KjFZPOdthA5H5nMXf3sk/s640/cut+xmas+cards.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
5. Score the cards down the centre of the page and then cut into the three separate cards. Fold to form a card.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhptCQFIxGWMV_lcpG_m94LiEJ2aqREwV1f6vRtUOD11tcHsNqKUj2uuLvBdIHP51YFyZZIibMNkOBP4IJI7ihL07cckWnJC92mjw6lKiuJ9nSFpnII7KVG4R9hTHn05lrB-FRvdSrFrsY/s640/extra+sparkle+xmas+card.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
6. Use the paintbrush and glitter paint to add some extra sparkles on the Christmas trees.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWykT5XRLoRMY4ke9Rc3lubtjvdxMzk4aR2McexcQsShjdttokh6GzI-5avHXAVIFnh67n0WOErTd0FzRIgwfm5Nfj7ZsKf1GqJcxPTAebOdKq5TvsAUU30Z8xoVf-48lgdcc9jgq790g/s640/send+xmas+card.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
7. After the paint has dried, write inside the cards and send them off with lots of love!<br />
<br />
I'm sure the recipients will love the cards, especially the fact that so much time and love has been put into them (just don't mention the photocopying... this is a quick craft after all ;)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Please excuse the horrible pun, but these muffins are truly berry delicious!<br />
I had an urge to bake something last weekend and chose muffins mostly because we just bought a new muffin carrier thing and I really wanted to try it out...<br />
I wasn't going to post about them since it was my first time baking them but they turned out surprisingly delicious and everyone was really impressed so when I finally to snap some photos, there were only four left!<br />
They're a nice moist and dense muffin and sort of make you want to go back for more and more.<br />

<b>Berry Delicious Muffins</b><br />
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">(adapted from Feijoa Muffins with Lime Glaze in Bake by Allyson Gofton)</span><br />
makes 24 (trust me, you'll want 24!)<br />
<br />
You will need // 5 cups of self raising flour, 4 teaspoons of baking powder, 1/2 cups of sugar, 1 1/2 cups of milk, 4 eggs, 100g melted butter, 80g berry yoghurt, 200g mixed berries with syrup/juice.<br />
<br />
Method //<br />
<br />
1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius. Grease 24 muffin cups or line with paper cases.<br />
2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder and sugar before making a well in the centre.<br />
3. In a jug, beat together the eggs, milk and yoghurt. Pour into the dry ingredients.<br />
4. Using a slotted spoon, fold together the dry ingredients with the butter and berries.<br />
5. Divide the mixture evenly among the patty pans.<br />
6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15/20 minutes until golden brown.<br />
7. Stand for 1 minute before brushing over with remaining berry syrup/juice and dusting with icing sugar.<br />
8. Enjoy!<br />

<br />
My not-so-recent now trip to Taiwan really made me aware of the essential things you need when travelling, especially overseas. You're always bound to forget something wherever you go, it's unstoppable. But whatever you do, don't forget the following items! Well, I won't anyway...<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Water bottle</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
It's a given... when you're out exploring the last thing you want is to become dehydrated. So keep safe and always keep a water bottle on hand. It will also mean that you're sure about where your water is coming from in the less trustworthy places you come across in your travels. And the best thing is that if you're flying and pack luggage that will go under in the aircraft, you can take liquids (like water). It was the best when I was in Taiwan to be able to get out a waterbottle and drink yummy rain water from home.<br />
<br />
<b>Document wallet</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
The worst feeling is to get somewhere (like the airport) and not be able to find something important (like your passport). I can't say it's actually happened to me, but I am ALWAYS losing things so it's better to be safe than sorry. When I was in Taiwan, I look a little handmade document wallet that stored everything from travel cards to passports and boarding passes. When I got somewhere, I just whipped it out and knew everything was safe in there. I'm so glad I took it!<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Over the shoulder bag</b>
<b><br /></b>
<br />
When I went to Taiwan, I bought a new backpack just for the trip. I knew that it would be great to hold all that stuff to cart around everywhere (especially since I was taking some pretty bulky things like my Polaroid camera). And it would be much more convenient than a handbag (I will admit I've been shopping, stopped to look at something and then left my handbag behind). Anyway, I thought a backpack would be great. It was but it wasn't.<br />
Sure, it was great for all the things mentioned above, but when we went to the night markets, my lovely hosts warned me of something I, coming from a lovely isolated country town in WA, would never have considered... the possibility of people taking things from by backpack. I would never have imagined something like that but after I was really paranoid. Nothing did get stolen but I did get a bit freaked! On my next trip to busy places, I'd love to take a bag that I can keep an eye on at all times.<br />
<br />

<br />
A couple of years ago now, in 2011, I started distance education. Living away from home for my schooling wasn't really suiting me and I never say no to an adventure so I was enrolled in SIDE (Schools of Isolated and Distance Education). I was so excited to get started and be in (some sort of) control of my own learning.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdTcoZvg3pLZctlcPF3xK5s-FNd38TIIlVxA0cP9XTOcEIIFRjI2sIisj9LpbpaQ1LTzJGyc1bA5r5egheCjp4XQgWLMkNElj1Hetefx7OTh-aLlN_KF5cSNNxexf24k25_Q-xKsJCzpE/s640/spring-32.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcyDXzzn6cx2JvXJ8shZUIApMVRehpWh0GUyD11v2g2Sa294Qxm34fJpUCZ0OeOvQqylBtQVMwuRD_GKKrj0vN4gRPJNhHtZomtDwwRkCVGUaVWvqL0U7B1zDxrxitDmHmZJgzBMlr14o/s640/spring-29.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
One of the first English topics was blogging. Of course, I was really interested and set straight to work. One of the tasks was to find three blogs through a website with a collection of Australian blogs and do an analysis on them. I found a few that sounded interesting... I remember one was an environment focused design sort of blog and another "A Not So Perfect Life". I did the analysis for the design blog before discovering that "A Not So Perfect Life" wasn't being written anymore, but the author, Tamsyn, had a new blog "<a href="http://maxandmeblog.blogspot.com.au/">Max and Me</a>". I head over there and sort of never left. Literally. I read and read and read and became inspired and forgot about my schoolwork...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuPpmuut1Bz3pXOnK4VnHcesoG-mMNNmBHDiai6mGz5x1k_SvTR-8_OGw2KY7sHZ4v9t5t2JjkB_v69gDMK5C_97tvTApM2hWCC-7c5JoErbzeXIrg3W8Q2BNCkYumlFbkwcBpuz6rjs8/s640/spring-11.jpg" width="426" /></div>
<br />
I didn't hand in very much work for my English course that year and failed the blogging topic. But regardless, I kept on reading Max and Me and through it, found more blogs to read and eventually, at the start of 2012, started this little blog here.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7apSA6_A9vttg_GUewPtsFQ6IAnN1V9xMmjUmL-OyOpd8XWhspCppwe3foMDMhutnJvZriMK2p7s6twBITA0IQV0zW1MbDiQEb8NOKyPlf5tXf7yoTZrAmLXjRV_qQOizDsmrqeA_lss/s640/spring-27.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj_OeMB7Sp-GuAQr9bZ5UdgAiXSgp1HFzgbKVtRPWrtK1dZuWAkHYv2vFcvqo4Ovetcy3gc05ICQIqGZ_DDz9X2mdjSugNej6QGM_MNcFMGC640jJYDdnNgwA6aL3zDvVOmNA4chcnWsY/s640/spring-28.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
So... to answer the question, "where did you learn all your blog skills?", it was definitely not in English class, but mostly through other amazing bloggers out there (like Tamsyn) who keep inspiring me!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZWKtwXolbNBJFyctCdfI94hnQaJWlVg76PJLJj7GtlBY5bEg4dr-nYvH1Vx-0irH0qR2dvYG0Ax_7Rw3K1lLxf1cSAHC907FovooNgjPKfz1-oTmfdwIgwFmOcQeFMCil4qObfq8KQgk/s640/spring-25.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Also, at the start of this year I did an <a href="http://sophieathome.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/inforgraphing-it-up-201213-in-review.html">e-course</a> written by <a href="http://abeautifulmess.com/">A Beautiful Mess</a>, which was interesting but didn't really change much in the way that I write and stuff like that. It must have helped a bit though because that was in January, when I had plenty of spare time (summer holidays) so I posted heaps and even started a blogging calendar to plan out everything. Now the posts just sort of come when I feel like it or have the time (I hardly ever schedule posts).</div>

As for my photos, sometimes they're really bad and other times not so bad. With my mum being a photographer, I've been getting her to teach me a few things and try to improve my photos. I'm not so good with editing yet, so mostly she helps out with that. But it's something I really want to learn to do by myself!<br />

<b><br /></b>
<b>You will need //</b> floral wrapping paper, at least three different scrapbook papers in coordinating colours and patterns, wide lace, bakers twine (in coordinating colour), scissors, sticky tape.<br />
<br />
<b>How to do it //</b> Start by wrapping your gift in the floral wrapping paper. Next cut a length of preferably plain scrapbook paper to wrap around the centre. If (like me) your scrapbook paper is too short, just tape together two lengths. It will be hidden by the lace anyway! Secure with tape so that it stays put. Wrap lace around the length of scrapbook paper and secure also. Wrap around the centre of the lace a length of bakers twine (any thin ribbon would work though) and tie in a bow, attaching the gift tags. For the look above, I cut one simple rectangular tag from a different scrapbook paper and a few small designs/illustrations from another paper design.<br />

Don't forget that you can totally change around things or swap them out if you don't have the same materials.<br />

I spent this morning wrapping a few presents as late birthday presents for our cousins... which means I have more gift wrapping ideas too! I'm so happy with how this one turned out... pretty gifts always make me smile :) <br />

<br />
In case you weren't aware (but I'm pretty sure it's obvious)... I love travel. I love seeing new places and hearing new sounds and smelling new smells and feeling new textures and tasting new foods. It's addictive. For quite some time now I've been dying to visit Finland. The northern lights, forested mountainsides and lakeside cottages all seem so appealing.<br />
<br />
Anyway... the above photo is that generic "plane wing and sky" photo that you take on every trip (don't you?) Well I do... this was taken on the way to Canberra last year. On my way to and back from Taiwan I decided to choose an aisle seat... it's so much less awkward when it comes to getting up to walk down the aisle.<br />
<br />
Okay, shopping time! Enjoy this weeks finds...<br />

I'd like to say a big thankyou to everyone who completed my <a href="http://sophieathome.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/hey-how-you-doing.html">blog survey</a> this time round. The results were considerably different this year! I was amazed at the amount of people who knew me in real life, but didn't say how. It was quite annoying, actually, trying to think of who I knew who would fit the criteria. lol</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've spent most of the afternoon on Photoshop, putting all the information into cute infographics. There's stuff related to the questions asked and also some other fun blog trivia for the people like me, who can't get enough stats. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you didn't get to do the survey, you can still do it (<a href="http://sophieathome.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/hey-how-you-doing.html">link here</a>) and I'll enjoy hearing all about you, even if your say didn't contribute to the facts below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There was a question asking how old readers were and the most common ages were under 15 and between 45 and 55.</div>

It seems that like me, your favourite things to read about are real life. Now I just have to get an interesting life to write about! Of course, I'll keep up with the Wattle Cottage updates (which I haven't done in a while), recipes and DIY projects.</div>

There were a few questions asked, which I will answer in separate posts in the coming weeks... keep an eye out! I've been meaning to write a post about my time in France for quite some time and it is one of the most common questions asked so I'll try. really hard. to get onto that.</div>

A big thanks again to all who did my survey (it's not too late though, I'd still love to hear from you!)<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
I now know that there are a lot of people who read my blog, some people I know in real life, some I know just through the blogosphere.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But you are all the reason that I keep blogging!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, I was hoping you would take a few minutes to fill in the below survey. They are nearly the same questions I asked this time last year... I'd love to see how the responses have changed!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The survey will be open until Friday, when I will put together some fun info graphics to share with you over the weekend.</div>

Considering it's her birthday in three days time I thought I would reshare these simple ideas!<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
I have a thing for beautifully wrapped presents. Some might be able to give someone a gift in a plastic bag, but not me. There is something about a beautifully wrapped present that makes me smile. It feels like someone has gone the extra just for you. Oh yes, and they look better under the Christmas tree!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Here are two very simple and easy ways to wrap presents that look beautiful and professional.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<i>Side note - when wrapping these "presents" I deliberately chose items that were easy to wrap. Try to make a wrapped up basketball look pretty... not an easy task. That's why I love gift boxes! You can put any awkward object into a box and it will be so much easier to wrap! It will also be a bit harder for the recipient to guess what might be under the wrapping paper...</i></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<h3>
<b>Simple and Elegant</b></h3>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2x3i_Jnz-Xr2WQfXXKKLDiGvq_yb6tlazhnjOuJEb8iVQsb12VSODtvtIbanfiUgbdRsdMP-p1wNPfdN2YMrxeet8QBljJ6SOUiARb95t41NHgYWp3iQtZ7zfbpTH_1U4_WeBH-EfeL8/s1600/1-Recently+Updated1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2x3i_Jnz-Xr2WQfXXKKLDiGvq_yb6tlazhnjOuJEb8iVQsb12VSODtvtIbanfiUgbdRsdMP-p1wNPfdN2YMrxeet8QBljJ6SOUiARb95t41NHgYWp3iQtZ7zfbpTH_1U4_WeBH-EfeL8/s640/1-Recently+Updated1.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<b>You will need // </b>scrapbooking/wrapping paper, craft card, string/twine, 6 beads of varying sizes, white gel pen/whiteout/nail polish, scissors, sticky tape.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
This look was so easy to create but looks so glamorous!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
For the main wrapping paper, I used scrapbook paper. It is a great way to create an individual look when wrapping small presents. Yes, it is a bit harder than your average wrapping paper, but it can give you so much more creativity (especially when you have a huge scrapbook paper collection like me).</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Then I used your everyday general purpose house string to wrap around the gift. You did just hear me say, everyday general purpose house string. I say just use what ya got. It could have looked so much more glamorous with beautiful ribbon, but I didn't have any thin white ribbon so I used what I had. And it still turned out awesome.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
I love gift tags. For this cute love heart shaped one, I freehandedly cut out a love heart from cardstock and then created a cute white dotted border with white nail polish. Yep, nail polish. Did I not say, use what ya got? I just dipped the end of a wooden skewer into the bottle and dotted my way around the edge of the card. Of course, if you want, you could use a white gel pen or paint. You know, only if you're normal.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Don't those beads just do it though? I just chose two sets of three different beads of differing sizes and then threaded them through the string before tying the end so they didn't fall off. Thankfully, the smaller bead was tight enough on the string that it didn't slip around. If you're beads do slip though, I could suggest tying a knot at the other end of the beads too.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<h3>
<i>Natural and "Booky"</i></h3>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqrzqDJ7AYynBKtUxF3wnK6FBWcmWczpz_hwpLRwa8Dzty5KkapNwM7dMSrqi7g3syYEkaT6smNUyrH5ZXJsamkAJu9TAQyVZDflZ2u6c_U-Tu4TH9aoO9NQDTTG4xJXNjuHa5F30xMWM/s1600/2-Recently+Updated.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqrzqDJ7AYynBKtUxF3wnK6FBWcmWczpz_hwpLRwa8Dzty5KkapNwM7dMSrqi7g3syYEkaT6smNUyrH5ZXJsamkAJu9TAQyVZDflZ2u6c_U-Tu4TH9aoO9NQDTTG4xJXNjuHa5F30xMWM/s640/2-Recently+Updated.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<b>You will need // </b>an old book page, wrapping paper/scrapbook paper, coordinating ribbon, alternative patterned/coloured paper, printer or black pen, double sided tape/glue, scissors, sticky tape.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
This look took a bit more of an effort, but the results are worth it!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
I used this beautiful natural looking wrapping paper with an elegant white pattern as the base. At the moment, brown and beige papers prettied up with ribbons and tags and other cute embellishments is really in.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Over the wrapping paper, I wrapped a book page around the centre. Older books that can be found at second hand stores (or maybe in a box in your attic) are best for this. First, choose a book that is cheap. It will probably be cheap because no one wants to read it, some pages are missing and the remaining pages are yellow. That means it is perfect for what you want. I looked at a few books before choosing the one I did. Others seemed not good enough because their pages were too white and their fonts too modern. Truthfully, my book was from our bookshelf. But it was a book that I swear no-one has read in over 10 years. And I only used the "acknowledgements" page just in case. Say it with me now, you gotta use what ya got.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
See that cute little name tag? It took a little bit of time because I typed it up on the computer and then printed it directly onto cute wood looking scrapbook paper, before cutting it into the shape I wanted. Of course to save time, handwriting the name tag would work just as well. It just depends what you want to do! I stuck into onto the wrapping paper with double sided tape or glue, I can't remember any more! Both ways would work though. Positioning it so that it is between the book page and wrapping paper is genius because I think it makes the transition between the two different papers flow easier.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
To top it off, I tied a ribbon around and secured it with double sided tape. Now you've got a present set to impress! Of course, the book page could be substituted by something else like music notes, a cute drawing or even a photo. Use your imagination!</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<b>Do you love beautifully wrapped presents as much as I do?</b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
By the way, I have a whole Pinterest board of ideas <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/sophietelfer/gift-wrapping/">here.</a></div>

<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwak3YA5MzibwPvWA6WDJsSiAOg6Ks-6AOkVp9VHe4-1VqKEpb2L_N_-TuIWxEvO2PG5ILLTdkTi5zkLShukIonlX0QPZnfgR_ULd4OESypj0mLZPJggxmY6llPbyIt-DicmNtoxNAcqc/s640/429441_10151371365596804_502887209_n.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
I have this weird thing where whenever it's winter, I really want it to be summer and whenever it's summer I miss winter.<br />
<br />
After all, this quote I found on Pinterest is so true...<br />
<br />
<h3>
<i>"People wait all week for Friday, all year for summer and all life for happiness."</i></h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know that it's not really a grateful thing to think, and we really should make the most of what we have right now but the thoughts of spending Sunday afternoons by the pool and relaxing on beach seem so appealing right now!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This past week has been really good though.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's the holidays right now in Western Australia and I went with a few friends down to Busselton for a trip that we have been planning for quite some time. It was a fun-filled, really great time and it was a great reminder of how much I love my life!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We bought some new bathers and it even gone warm enough to go for a swim one afternoon...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXjcYknfr094RNmqiqZAomIcikMe0KMZQuidSWVQ8r35HnCs70NWXtZIcS2XXxnN9qfDPfXyI7-9QgnplsLrMd-JObQMNd_Py9ICSzTDqwStbMwyEL418ZGfhJZiyQ8DnGx1o97IJ2_v4/s640/IMG_2017.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Then on Friday night we had a couple of families over for a casual pizza dinner before yesterday going to a 50th party for the local garage. We were there from midday to past 10pm at night and it was really one of those feel-good occasions. It was one of those days where you can walk around the streets at night with friends with not a care in the world (besides how cold it was!)<br />
<br />
I'm looking forward to summer with more occasions to spend time with friends and family at community events... and to go swimming in the pool! It is open, just still too cold to go.<br />
<br />
<b>What are you wishing for?</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD9rmIhHPV7hUKk98uWW2HaNTD2LCQg6OPUByRQoJ6z6LrptRKMsvxi7Hoivi1-PVu248IYLeGWERcuVT50gPkJodrvgFZyZShjyUU1SpXfC25TU48Hn299_KBlOkl4GllCNMHCEHeGaQ/s640/decorated+notebook+sophie+at+home-6.jpg" width="640" /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
The school holidays are coming soon in Australia. I think in the east they have already started, and over here in the west we just have one more week left of Term 3. Yay! Two weeks can easily becoming boring though so this idea would be a perfect way to personalise your school books, and save you from boredom!<br />
<br />
It's a quick, cheap and easy idea to update any notebook... perfect as a school holiday craft! Or for any time when you're sick of those ugly notebooks!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCtC7FAOjRD5NoBd2vY3FbPL4ho1XaDGbXsKsqeseFS5iTRN0GObgeitcx8E0TKSZL38ziTpDzmAZU6aWZNUQjTkrHOZodDwd8YIqPexKoNTufpi7GocCc2mqN78bw8FdcbXihPvo79Sg/s640/decorated+notebook+sophie+at+home.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
You will need: thick blank paper (thick is good since it is both stronger and thicker so doesn't show the cover through... but your normal copy paper will work too), textas/markers/pens... whatever you like!, a (preferably ugly, plain) notebook, washi tape in corresponding colours/patterns, double sided tape and contact paper (optional but recommended).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizf5y3ltZtOzHvAJkn4X6J8MNvNkXYMJARU6ANOqIoi3Dbw7_17SKMkmT5gik1Gpy9bkxn6e-ySyXfF1WrsVoP7BQSKP0EMYd7Zr36wIbXhqJYW0QAoCLDRbMTjvETfJwyrIiiEPt7O3E/s640/decorated+notebook+sophie+at+home-2.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
1. Start by drawing patterns on your two pieces of blank paper. You will need one for the back and another for the front. I found inspiration in a drawing book, but you can draw inspiration from anywhere (the internet, Pinterest and even my designs here!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixOsMwfXfLKdfUqAJAqrDc5A5jtBRRT8hLr17A4XJxVbg4Yn4nMm8T-WN8uoVa3qOlR3xBS7aHF6MpPTFG-7b2zlZMVO6S8eXTNDna_wRNjcK40yyZQbGQGmhoKnKj8EtQbNMfPCkWnwk/s640/decorated+notebook+sophie+at+home-3.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
2. Continue until you have two pages filled with doodles and designs! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwuaVcjjkBbRm9SE2JGQ7MVWVEAFLMot-XpPPcDm5rw5GPA9AR8sit4wP9_gwvP5hp0n-jYBZ1GnJlkSkDkst72OYbEXfTtlKXHeLn9crGfpJATJ00s4HhuBcRLvfqNTGw-iMRiWE88V4/s640/decorated+notebook+sophie+at+home-4.jpg" width="640" /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Trim your paper to fit your notebook (if necessary) and use double sided tape to attach the design to the notebook.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy-yC1SLLOZik49nPamIHJ1HJLtCTl3j35hwenpLohiZSFLE17TYtatD7Sks0Xc5AJNQuOiteG6ZtJtsMg1BPr4D4p1x-lxTFZ80BTRsC-q_AZut907rHg9k_E6emjMNE_x23RjDeSB9c/s640/decorated+notebook+sophie+at+home-5.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Run a strip of washi tape down the spine of the notebook to bridge the gap between the two paper designs and create a cool effect!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZtdtkmsiE3LIqOnk8IWZeyBohelHCZAEwkyOrG3x0PCKAIQrQ3pYj6JUA0N8a5Hs8dTSYKHFaIvRleKycNfYzP0wO3NQf8hrOwd0S9lqRxcX50jLRp8in8w7lLoi91l1moFvrEbMrClQ/s640/decorated+notebook+sophie+at+home-7.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
5. Optionally, cover with contact paper and then you're done! I would really recommend the contact paper though so that then your designs can be protected for a long time!<br />
<br />I really want to try different colours too... it would be great fun! But I'm so happy with the updated end product... so much prettier!<br />
<br />
